What is it?The interest rate at which RBI lends money to banks for a short time.
Simple exampleThink of RBI as the wholesale shop and banks as retail shops. If the wholesale price goes up, retail prices go up too. So when repo rate rises, home and vehicle loans become costlier.
Why does RBI do it?To control inflation. Less borrowing means less spending, so prices cool down. To boost the economy, RBI cuts the repo rate instead.
What is it?A special provision in the Constitution that protects local people of Andhra Pradesh (and Telangana) in government jobs and education.
Simple exampleWhen you apply for a district-level post, candidates from that local zone get priority. That "local candidate" rule comes from Article 371D.
Why was it made? After the Mulki and Jai Andhra agitations, a fair system was needed so that every region got its share of jobs and seats.
What is it?A large multipurpose dam on the Godavari river for irrigation, drinking water and power.
Simple exampleGodavari has extra water that flows into the sea. Polavaram stores it and sends some towards the Krishna basin, so dry areas also get water.
Why is it "national"?Because the Centre declared it a national project, it funds the irrigation component.
What is it?The law that divided the old Andhra Pradesh into two states: Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Simple exampleLike dividing a joint family property, it decided who gets which assets, employees, rivers' water and debts.
Key promisesPolavaram as a national project, central institutions for AP, and special support for backward districts.
Terms that appear again and again in news and question papers.
| Word | తెలుగు అర్థం | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Inflation | ధరల పెరుగుదల | Inflation makes the same rice bag costlier every year. |
| Ordinance | ఆర్డినెన్స్ / అత్యవసర శాసనం | The Governor issued an ordinance when the Assembly was not in session. |
| Fiscal deficit | ద్రవ్య లోటు (ఖర్చు − ఆదాయం) | Higher borrowing increased the state's fiscal deficit. |
| Devolution | అధికార/నిధుల బదలాయింపు | Devolution of funds to panchayats strengthens villages. |
| Tribunal | ప్రత్యేక న్యాయస్థానం | Service disputes go to the Administrative Tribunal. |
